         Our Tuesday night Art Classes can be taken as one or sign up for the monthly series!    


This course will be an introduction to watercolor painting by working from direct observation, exploring the abstract by understanding principles of design and composition, and representing the landscape in a personal way using photographic source materials. Students will be encouraged to explore while understanding the basics of technique and process.

Week 1 (12/5): Introduction to watercolor
Working with a color still life, getting starting, introduction to design principles, color theory, value and composition.

Week 2 (12/12): Abstract
Introduction to abstraction, space and form relationships, language and color palette. Experimentation to develop technique and personal imagery.

Week 3 (12/19): Landscape
Working from photographic sources, emotional response to the landscape, inventing spaces while working from observation.

Fotini Christophillis is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Greenville, SC and currently based in Boston, MA. She received her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University in 2016 and BA in Studio Art and Arts Management from the College of Charleston in 2008. She has exhibited her work at the Redux Contemporary Art Center, the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and the Lambert Gray Gallery in Charleston, SC and at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Her recent work lies at the intersection of painting, music, and dance, exploring traditional painting and drawing processes with the dynamics of live performance and the moving image.  She also has a background in contemporary dance and studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York City before beginning her training as a visual artist.
